RMS Writing Emphases 3/1/16
I spoke to Kay Hopkins (Curriculum Development - ELA) and Billie Wallace (Director of School Improvement) about our vertical alignment for writing development emphasis, grades 6-8 at RMS, and they liked the idea, adding that it's probably a good idea for all schools to do this, although each school should develop their own emphases in order to ensure that each school's language arts teachers play a part in developing their school's signature writing process. Remember that we still teach all of the standards; our school's emphases will merely meet the needs of our students as we see them, and will help us to help students develop their writing skills based on a process of emphases unique to Robinson.

It looks like we may switch the 8th grade district writing assessment to expository (instead of argumentative) since grades 6 and 7 are both narrative. The leap to argumentative skips steps necessary for our students to develop a reasonable argument. Perhaps we can start with the intent of writing.
